Tour of Missouri: The dance of legislation

Filed under: Uncategorized — Tags: — Roger @ 11:29 am

Supporters of the Tour of Missouri bicycle race are now focusing their efforts on Missouri state senators to preserve $1 million in state funding for the race.

Last week, the Missouri House decided to include money for the race in next year’s state budget. The bill moves on to the Senate.

The Missouri Bicycle & Federation is asking Tour of Missouri supporters to express their support to members of the Senate Appropriations Committee.

The Federation and the Missouri Bicycle Racing Association have taken over day-to-day operations of the race from Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder’s office.

If the bill makes it through the Senate, it goes to Gov. Jay Nixon for his signature. Like many other states, Missouri gives its governor line-item veto powers. The federation still is calling on Tour of Missouri supporters to contact Nixon’s office at 573-751-3222 or through his Web site, http://governor.mo.gov/contact.

As of today, the Support the Tour of Missouri Facebook page has more than 7,000 fans and the Tour of Missouri 2010 Twitter page has almost 180 followers.
